I have a 1973 mustang convertible and am curious how much it would cost to get a new paint job on it? does anybody have any good estimates or personal experience?

Depends on what you want. For same color and a "Good quality" paint job that will last you're looking at $3 to $5K. If you want a full blown concourse type paint job then that can run as high as $15K. If you just want new color and aren't concerned with how it looks up close or durability (sometimes called a "good at 20 feet" job) then Earl Scheib or MAACO will probably do it for around $500 to $700. You get what you pay for.

maaco does really cheap paint jobs, under $500 and it can belooking good..... for a year or two before the cheap paint job shows why it was cheap.

paint is paint is paint. it costs basically the same no matter who sprays it. prep work is where the price really changes, and you cant have a long lasting quality paint job without serious prep.

the beauty of prep work is that it doesnt take much skill for most of it. remove the bumpers and everything on the body that doesnt get painted, light sanding the entire body, taping up windows, those dont take much skill, but they can take LOTS of time.
do them yourself and you dont pay for them to be done.
