A CEL means that you SHOULD go in to get it checked out. It means that there IS something wrong, no doubt about that.
I had to reset my CEL because I was doing modifications to the car, and turned the car over before I was completed. (I didnt tighten down the ERG Valve, and the Power Brake Booster vaccum line came off). I disconnected the battery, tighened everythign back up, re-connected the battery.. no more CEL and the car ran great (before it wouldn't keep an idle and it sounded like hell).
I understand the rant, and maybe my comment wasn't needed at this particular time. But I will Agree.... a CEL shouldn't ever be ignored. If you cant figure out whats wrong yourself... take it in.
