I come seeking help in fixing what was supposed to my mothers gift. I have a black 2012 mustang that my mother thought she would have waxed for me by surprise. As you have probably figured out, her cheap wax job destroyed my clear coat. Looks like some dummy went at it with a cheap orbital. There are clear coat swirl scratches covering g the car bumper to bumper. Any chance of saving it or did my mother just ruin my new car?

Rubbing compound (clear coat safe)... On a random orbital (low-med speed)... Then repeat using 3 different polishes (progressively finer), then good wax.

I'd that doesn't fix it, body shop. They can wetsand, re clear, wet sand some more and polish.

Isn't the end of the world. Paint isn't damaged

I don't even want to think about what a body shop would charge to wet sand a car. Sounds painful but I guess it is what it is. Can anyone suggest polish's, I have only used turtle wax black box so far. It's a mild polish then a carnuba wax.

For the rubbing compound, macguires ultimate compound.

For the polishes, I've used Griot's 1, 3, 4 polishes.

what about pads for the random orbital? I know you can get different pads for different jobs.

Orange foam Rubbing compound.

Black foam (softer) for polish.

Follow the instructions on the compound or polish... Typically you coat the pad fully like buttering toast. Light pressure. Always moving.

Pattern is important here... Over every spot, you'll eventually make 8-12 passes. But flow and pattern where you go one direction row by row, then go the perpendicular direction... And so on.

She took it to a small car wash place down the street. I avoid the place because I never see any nice cars there... Or anyone there really. I usually wash and detail my car myself so things like this won't happen

I will take a look at the Adams website and see what it has to say as well.

Zaino, they make a complete detailing kit, check them out. Your car will look better than it did when it left the factory. It's the only thing serious car collectors use. Do not wet sand or use a buffer, you'll just compound the problem. Those are two things that should be left to a professional. Google Zaino Store

You need to take it back there and show the GM. Make them fix it.

If you don't take it back and make them aware of it they could do it to someone else.
That Is So True! Please Go Back And Notify Owner or GM!! Not Manager Because He May Already Know and Would Be Afraid Of Losing His Job.... l was very very lucky the day this happened to mine. I suppose it depends on how you look at it!

I took my car to a wash. I mean this place was beautiful and very high tech. It had a drive through and a hand wash. I went in paid to have my car Hand wash and detailed. I also made it clear l didnt want my car to go into the drive through. I dropped it off. When I got it back it had a deep gouge(sp) 2"long about 3/8 to 1/2" deep in the center of the hood but in the back closest to the windshield and my rear louvers as well, the third from the top is really bad. I was fit to be tied

Apparently the guy ran it through the regular car wash and the BIG ROLLER looking brush is what caused it. When l confronted the manager he denied that it had gone through and accused me of lying. He said it was my problem and that's when l lost it and yelled "You'll be hearing from my attorney (which l didn't have but he didnt know that) and that by Friday and I would have his job! At that point someone cleared their throat or coughed. I turned around to tell this person he could wait his turn or get in line behind me. When two guys walked up. One man(the owner) and the other guy who had gone through the same bs l had. (Car damaged by Drive through) he even said the same as me. Do not take it through because of the damage it would cause.

It seemed John had his car damaged and threaten the manager. But when he got nowhere with him, he contacted the owner. It just so happened the two men were meeting there. The idiot lost his job, John and we not l, got our cars fixed. Apparently there were lots of complaints. But the owner didn't know or wasn't told.

I will go say something to them but I don't expect anything to come of it really. I wouldn't let them try to fix it either.

no matter how hard you try you will never keep a black car perfect and it will have swirls from just .... nothing (wind blowing perhaps.... :D) lol

you just have to keep up with the upkeep like every month very regularly, this is why I wont own a black car again that I daily driver EVER
