Does just coasting in netrual bad for the car in any way? Also, does it increase gas mileage opposed to staying in gear? What are the pros and cons?

I would imagine it saves some gas, since the load on your engine is significantly lower. It could make your clutch last longer since the drivetrain stress is gone. Same goes for leaving the clutch engaged (pedal up) and the tranny out of gear.

No it doesn't hurt it. I do that out of habit in traffic. Last car was at 200k and still going strong even with that habit.

I throw mine in neutral going down hill and at longer lights.

I always coast in Neutral as often as I can. It's especially fun when going downhill...until you catch up with the SUV in front of you....
