i don't think it would take much for a muffler shop to much to adapt it.
shouldn't be hard for them to bend the pipes to fit, or they can use from the muflers forward, and bend pipes for the axle and just use the tips from the cat back
1999 Cobras have IRS, your car doesnt, it be easier to get a GT takeoff.
Yes, but he's already got the cobra exhaust for free. I'd say use what's cheap in this case. The only real problem is the bend to clear the axles is 90* off. They may be able to cut and reweld the bend that's already there to get it pointed right.
I was having some fun just laying under my v-6 last night (and yeah, HAD to put it up on ramps to do it, but it was done)... and there may be something else happening here. If you have Cobra exhaust, that's dual exhaust.... but your v-6 may not be able to be a true dual system. Does your car have one cat. or two? My car, luckily, has true dual capabilities, and it doesn't join until like where the driver's seat is. Now..... You might want to just take a look under your car. If there's only one pipe like all the way back, you'll need an adapter that basically cuts your one exhaust tube (after the cat) into two. This means your Cobra exhaust will have to be cut in half. If your car has two cats, then putting the duals on yourself is rather easy. Welding would be best, but using exhaust clamps is always an option. If it has two cats, measure how long your Cobra exhaust is, and then measure that back to your car, and make a mark on your exhaust tubing like 3-4'' shorter than that. Then, cut along that mark, and try to make it pretty like. Maybe try to get it to fit. It shouldn't be too hard of a set-up. We have the same basic car.... the exhaust my be different however. I don't know why a muffler shop would tell you it's hard... when I"m going to do all my own exhaust, and I'm not a muffler shop, and I don't have the Mustang exhaust like you do. I'm basically going to just build it, lol. If that doesn't work, my car's gonna be quite loud until I can get a kit ordered, lol.

there all the same if there stock, and i know that the 99+has 4 cats. i'm not sure about the pre 99 tho
All the V6s, 94 and up that is, have 4 cats, 2 on each side, then it goes into a y and into a single exhaust, to make it dual that has to be cut off and either weld pipe from there to a set of GT duals or a fabricated or aftermarket H can go in there. Cobra duals are made to go UNDER the IRS rear axle, only way you could use it would be to cut it before the axle and run turn downs on it with no tail pipes.

Anyone else wants a set of stock Cobra catbacks I have a set of 03 Cobra 2 1/4" catbacks I will sell for cheap.
how cheap? and I still think I'll make mine. Ummm, 2 cats on each side? would it be louder if I took off one on each side.... or is that a no no (aside from the possible legal aspect of it)?
it will set of the check engine light....Ricks GT did with high flow cats. but if you have no emissions or inspections where your at cut them off at your will. I wouldn't really bother doing it, just my .02
just buy a 150 dollar off road h pipe, get some MIL Eliminators and you will be set. (Unless yo have Emssion Checks in your State then disregard what i just said)
Geez, I don't know, all you could really use would be the intermediate pipe and the mufflers, the tail pipes are made to go under the IRS rear end so you can't use those at all, and the mufflers are about like stock GT mufflers pretty much. I can't remember what it cost to ship an exhaust system, but its pretty heavy. Just shipping and maybe 20 bucks extra, that is plenty.
well thanks for the help. do u guys think i should just buy a set of gt exhaust for 150 bucks and let that be that. or should i get the guy to work with what i have. i was looking at tail pipes and they were charging 150 for a set:eek: . and do i really need a kit to install these things or do i need a new shop?
what i would do is bring them to an exhaus shop, put it on but let them bend new pipes for over the axle, then use the cobra tips of the cobra system. or just run dumps.
I have the same issue. Bought an exhaust and ended up being a Cobra exhaust. I haven't put mine on yet because of money restrictions but I have talked to a shop that will do it. They are going to cut the pipes right after the muffler, bend new pipes to go over the axle and weld the tips on for me. It's more expensive than if you had GT takeoffs. But in your situation, your only cost is putting the exhaust on. If you went the GT takeoff route, now you will have to purchase the exhaust as well as pay to have your Y-pipe modified. And if you want, you could mess with selling the Cobra exhaust but that's just a big hassle.
Just check around locally at all the muffler shops and have them custom make a system for you. Let your fingers do the walking thru the yellow pages. And if they say they need to look at the car move on because if they dont know enough of there business to know what a dual exhaust on the most pouplar sports car in America will cost they are dumbasses and dont know their business very well.
well thanks every one for the help. i think ill take my work some where else.
