Im looking at a 1986 mustang hatchback. it can hold a v8 and a 5 speed. Im thinking of putting in a different engine. Any ideas for a fast motor?

A 347 or 351W may be too much torque for your T-5..... A 331 stroker would give you more torque than the 5.0L offers, without all the block clearancing (grinding) a 3.4" stroke 347 would necessitate. If you retain the EFI you'll undoubtedly be looking at buying a new mass air sensor, throttle body, and injectors to feed the new beast.

Years ago I dropped a 3.8L V6 in one with the 5 speed behind it. It was quick enough but not a terrible gas hog. Something to consider with gas prices being what they are.

If I had it, I would put in a 351W with either a 5 speed or a 6 speed. Very powerful, reliable, and cheap.

I like the 2.3 turbo, it was offered in the GT-Turbo, SVO and Thunderbird Turbocoupe...These motors can be made fast!
