I have a pair of '97 exhaust manifolds I know they won't bolt up directly to the rest of the exhaust if I put them on an 02 motor but I can work that out. But how will I do the extra tubing on the drivers side manifold? And the O2 sensor I think on the passengers side. Will I just have to weld that shut or something?

You can have an exhaust shop weld it, or buy some o2 bung plugs from late model restoration for 15 bucks.

I've actually seen 99-04's with those manifolds on them, I think you could swap them in just fine and they should flow better than the stock 99-04 manifolds because those ones you got off your 97 are actually headers. Unless you have changed your exhaust then you might run into a problem?

I think I'll get them welded to be better assured that I won't encounter problems in the future. I am actually putting them on an '02 motor that is going into a '97 shell. I got pretty much the complete exhaust from the '02 and I will be using the muffler and tailpipe from the '97 so everything should bolt on fine. I might have to bend some pipes a bit

Youll have to widen the midpipes collectors i believe since they are 1/4" smaller on 99-04 but besides that i dont see an issue...ive been planning on doing this swap myself.

I'll try and bolt everything on outside the car see if it fits. How would I widen them. I saw this tool at autozone to widen your tailpipe, would that work? The midpipe collectors are the ones that go after the manifold right? Where the cats go?

lol my autocorrect ruined that whole post...what i meant to say was you may find it easier to just take the collectors from an sn95 and weld them to the NE midpipe you have

Oh man, I thought I was going crazy lol okay well the sn95 manifold is a bit bigger in the collector than the stock one but I'm pretty sure if you tighten the bolts enough there would be no problem right? I also took a second look at both sn95 and NE manifolds and I think I can put dummy o2 sensors in there and no buggy. Also the tubing on the passenger side manifold is different but you can exchange them for each other. For future reference. You will need WD40, a big a$$ wrench, and lots of endurance. Maybe a friend to help you out cause that thing was STUCK on there but I managed to get it off.
Sorry, the ME app doesn't let me put pictures throughout the text so they're all at the bottom so you can see what I'm talking about

Another problem I ran into. The manifold doesn't couple with the NE exhaust. Should I cut the couplings off and exchange them or how would this go down?

I used my sources (and brain) and used the "search feature. I searched exhaust manifold and found an old thread about manifolds cracking. Another member said to make the holes bigger on the exhaust and it'll be good. I guess I can try that. Nothing like a little bit of trail and error for the learning process

I was planning on doing this exact mod when my manifolds cracked, i still have the manifolds off the 94-99, You are exactly right 1slosix, they bolt straight up to the block (believe me i know because i had them bolted up to the block before i found out...) however, the flange on the collector is larger than the flange on the rest of my exhaust, so you would need to cut your exhaust right behind the flange, put one on that would fit and weld it back together. from what i could see there was no way i was going to be able to elongate the holes enought to fit it.

Like i said, lol, i have the manifolds in my house. Just sitting waiting for me to have the money to do it. just waiting it out to see if the other side cracks, and if they do the ones i have are going on there.

Yeah, I have the headers bolted on to the motor too. But the problem that persists is bolting them on to the collectors. I'm trying a circular file/ drill combo to maybe widen the holes on the collectors enough to fit the bolts on. I feel sorry for you man. When my manifold cracked it was the drivers side and that was pretty hard to take off. I can imagine taking the passenger one off with the egr and everything. Luckily I'm working on the motor outside of my car so everything is on hand and super easy to work on

remember the sn95 collectors are 1/4" wider then the NE collectors...
So it would be easier to cut the collectors from both exhausts and weld the sn95 to the NE along with the bolt fasteners or whatever they're called? I'll get some quotes from some exhaust shops. I don't have a welder at my disposal

Got it. I'll try it out tomorrow and I'll post pictures if I get it up for future reference if anyone else would want to try it
