I've had this problem with a different 67 years ago, the rubber released from the engine mount and allowed the engine to rotate up and cut the upper radiator hose.

Now I have the engine torquing up into the fan shroud and tearing it up. When you punch it from a stop and let off right away, you can feel a clunk sound. I'm assuming it's the engine lifting up and falling down.
The thing is, I replaced the mounts about 10,000 miles ago and it's not being stomped on. I lift the engine slightly with a jack on the oil pan, I didn't see any separation on the mount, but I didn't push it up but a 1/4". I'm going to try again and focus on the drivers side with the jack.
Could it be anything other than the mounts? Or is anyone else having a problem with mounts separating? I really hate fixing something twice!

What brand did you get? And I'm assuming it's a stock fan? Check the fan bolts? I know when I was diagnosing bad engine mounts on another car I just but it in drive/reverse and give some gas and the engine should lift you could try that to actually see if it is the mounts

It's a stock steel fan and its not loose. When in reverse and hitting the brakes it has a clunk also. The mounts are for a 68, because 67 are impossible to get and are a beast to install.

Hmm never heard about the 67 mounts. Anyways not sure then. I'd just check to make sure everything is tight and if so then maybe looking into a different brand of mounts

I learned the hard way about the 67 mounts. The 68's are a little different. When you order the universal ones they rarely work, google it, you'll be surprised.
I've got check the mounts again, I can't think of anything else. I did notice the seat support rails aren't welded very securely to the floor pans, but that's a different issue.

Ha isn't that always the problem. Looking for one thing and find another. Good luck with the mounts I'll have to look into it.

I had to replace the motor mount on the drivers side of my 68 last year and it sounds like you may have the same issue when you hit the gas hard you can fell the motor rise up and make a long clunk when it falls back down I was lucky as it did not hit anything and tear it up but when it happened I had it in the shop the next day just had to start out real slow with the gas and baby it.

I used to see people wrap a piece of chain around the drivers side exhaust manifold and then connect it to the frame so that it would limit the amount that the engine could twist.
Guys have been having this problem, of breaking motor mounts, for 50 years!

Finally got the jack on it and it's a separated engine mount.
I found some new ones from Prothane that use polyurethane and not rubber, also have a metal bracket that wraps over it. So this should solve the problem. I'll let you know how they go in and grab some pics.

Update
The prothane mounts are great. The only thing is you have to cut off the small tab on the engine frame mounts first. Which is easy. Then they fit right up.
The additional steel plate will prevent them from breaking like the OEM's. The car feels solid when accelerating.
