We took a long run in the country hills on curvy roads in our new GT 'vert, and I decided to try the "S" setting on the trans, as I was "making pretty good time" and the trans was shifting a lot in and out of the upper gears.
Once I switched to "S", the car just seemed to come alive in my hands. It held gears where I needed it to, gave me the correct gear out of the corners, and gave me some compression for the downhill runs. I fully expected to have to use the paddles in order to be able to drive the way I wanted to, but the "S" settings made using them completely unecessary. Congrats to the car enthusiast/computer programmer at Ford who got this right!:bow:

Great Tip, I thought in S mode you had to use the paddles. Guess not. I will try it out next chance I get on my vert. I did try out the Snow/Rain setting in a heavy rain storm,on the toggle switch. You can feel the difference.

I have to agree. Every performance vehicle should have this feature!! Changing the way a vehicle feels/performs with a flick of a switch=priceless!!

"S" setting on the trans or Sport+ on the mode switch?

My 15 Ecoboost requires the paddles in "S" on the trans but changing the "Mode" switch resets the shift points when using Sport + or Track. What "S" setting are you referring to?

Can't argue there. I thought they used the same transmission but my Ecoboost definitely requires the paddles to shift in "S". It's great that the 5.0 doesn't. The paddles are an option in drive and you can shift or just let the computer do it.

I know this is resurrecting an old thread --- but we took another run today on a road we've not been on recently -- and never with the GT. Highway 97 South from I 90, just east of Couer D'Alene.
That road skirts the most beautiful lake and rivers for about 80 miles, and has LOTS of curves and hills. Once again, the "S" setting on the transmission was perfect for this road.
The way Ford engineers programmed this setting not to downshift if you brake gently, but to give you two gears down and lots of compression help if you brake harder for a corner -- then hold that gear as you accelerate out -- BRILLIANT!
If any of you have not tried the "S" setting on your favorite curvy road, please do so ASAP! You will fall in love with your car all over again.

I drive in "S" on more than my favorite curvy roads 💚💚💚 definitely fun.
Yes -- even around town it's fun sometimes to feel the car hold first gear for longer than the width of the crosswalk. "S" also changes the throttle pedal application aggression, and makes that first inch of travel a LOT more interesting. You have to work at it to be smooth at lower speeds and in stop and go traffic in "S".
In "D" the car just feels kind of lazy unless you really lay the coals to it. Like I said, the car just comes alive in "S" -- as stated above, I'll have to try that track setting in the toggle switches, although that requires you to take your eyes off the road -- that is the one thing I like about the "S" setting, as it just falls to hand intuitively and without dropping your eyes to the console.

Reach for toggle, eyes back on the road, lift up a couple of times on the toggle, quickly look between tach and speedo, confirm you are in Track Mode.

I don't drive far in track. Best to experiment on a deserted back road to get a handle on the suble drive differences.

I thought in S mode you had to use the paddles.
If you shift into "S" and then use the paddles, then you are in a manual mode, where the paddles become primary and the trans holds the gear(s) you select.
If you shift into "S" and don't touch the paddles, the car takes over with a much more aggressive shifting program, and it is excellent without using the paddles.

Im taking delivery of my DIB 2016 A6 GT Premium either this Thursday or Friday, Im coming from an M6 2011, which as we know, the mt82 leaves much to be desired, I cant wait to experience the rock solid A6
