Ref 2007 Ford Mustang GT. Are pin-type/pushpin retainers one-time use and is there a trick to removing them? I want to remove the rear luggage compartment trim panel and there are four of them holding it in place.

Please use a panel remover tool. Its is a flat fork like tool that allows the removal of the pins or panel with minimal damage and effort. DO NOT use pliers or screw drivers lol. You can use them but they can cosmetically damage stuff. More often then not you can easily reuse the old ones if you properly removed them, ahem with the panel removal tool. It really depends on what kind of shape the ridges that hold them in place are in. There is a tool to remove them. Its basically a flat metal fork with two wide prongs and a gap in the middle so that it slides underneath. Then they just pop up. Or you can just pry them up with a flathead screw driver. If the little ridges down the center post are still in good shape than the push pin will stay in place. Otherwise you can just pick up some new ones. They aren't expensive.
