i found a dual 10" speaker box that someone was throwing away. it was sitting on the curb of a dorm were i work at (university of texas @ arlington)
the box says it is for a new dodge ram but it fits perfect in my trunk. i was real lucky cuz i two 10" jl audios subs sitting in a speaker box made for a truck (long as hell). all i need to do is carpet it and its ready to go. i still have the factory stereo and i was wondering if my stereo will support the subs ( i think they're 400 watts each) and a 800 watt amplifier?

i would think it would, it would just sound better with a new deck, someone that knows more will chime in here...nice find!

i ran my subs off my stock unit for a while, it sucked compared to a new headunit. I have a rca converted, I just cut into the rear speaker wire, hook it into the wires, taped it, then pluged the rca jacks into the amp, and bam, bass with stock HU.

You can still use the factory headunit. But it won't sound as good.

And I would check the cubic feet of the box against your subwoofer. You don't wanna give it to much air.

i stuffed the box with some cotton stuffing so that it wouldn't have too much air and i finished putting the carpet on it. looks real nice and fits perfect in the trunk up against the back seats. hooked it up to the same wires that run to the back speakers but it still didn't sound real good. i haven't tried it with the amp yet but i will tomorrow. i know that it sounds kick ass cuz i hooked it into my brother-in-laws camaro and it sounded nice. but he has an aftermarket headunit and we used the amp. anyways, thanks for the tips and i'll see how it works out tomorrow.

Lol your seriuos? Your head unit puts out at max 22rms............ and thats not clean power. No way could you even judge if a sub was good or not by hooking it up to the same thing that runs your full range 5x7 speakers

i know that the sub sounds good cuz i tried on a good system. i just said that it didn't sound good on mine cuz of the stock HU and no amp. didn't have time to hook the amp on yesterday, probably do it tonight.
