I used to do that everyday when I had a 96 gt cuz somebody stole My keys and I was afraid they were gonna come back and steal the car, and I did that for like 6 months and it didn't hurt anything

Isnt this just a button that you press and as soon as you release it re engages right? Or is it a switch? Just seems to me like its just a reset switch, not so much of a switch that turns off and on. I pressed mine once out of curiosity and was still able to turn my car on. Maybe im just confused about this whole thing or it malfunctioned. But i was still able to start my car right up still.

I do not know about the earlier models, however on the '99 through '04 the fuel cutoff switch is an inertia switch with a reset (only) button. Pressing the button will do nothing if the switch has not been activated by a jolt--I.e. in a crash.

You can make it activate by banging it with a rubber mallet...

If you smack the switch the button will pop up and that is shut off, like cliffy said its a inertia switch, so if you wreck and it jars the switch it shuts off fuel, then you push it down to re set it

Behind the switch there's a slot thats big enough for a flat head screwdriver than can go in and u can pop the switch back up
I had forgotten about that; there are slots in the button shroud, on two sides, through which the button can be "popped" with an appropriate tool...
