Gears??I'm new to this so I hope this is not a stupid question.how do I know what gears are in my stang without tearing them out??any help would be appreciated.

Stock gears are 3.27. You can also check by putting it on stands and counting the number shaft rotations per wheel rotations. YouTube will have some good videos to walk you through how to do it.

You can also check the diff cover for the tag.. The tag if there will have the gearing, if the tag is gone then at the very least someone has been inside..

not all 99-04 are 3.27 it depend on auto/manual etc. You can look on the door jam or the rear end.

If all else fails jack up the rear mark a spot on the driveshaft then rotate the rear wheels one full turn and count the drive shaft revolutions, its the ratio.

My 97 auto had 3.27's. Just changed them out friday to the 4.10's.
Was running around 2k stock at 60mph now its about 2350-2400 at 60.

I had 4.10s and they were amazing. They made a huge difference. My car was more torquier and got to speed quicker. Killed my gas mileage though.

Definitely a difference! Order the gear for the speedo at the same time since you or whoever does it will already have it lifted.

I'm running 2K RPM's at 60 mph so, I would guess then, that I have stock 3.27 gears? I was told it's stock '96 Cobra. Sounds correct?
