I'm running 2K RPM's at 60 mph so, I would guess then, that I have stock 3.27 gears? I was told it's stock '96 Cobra. Sounds correct?
That sounds a bit high for 60; I run 2,000 at 60 with 4.10s. I'd love a reference rpm at 70 because that's probably the most familiar speed/rpm combo for me to guess from due to highway driving.
3.73s should be around 2,300-2,400 at 70, and my 4.10s pull 2,600-2,700 at 70
Funny, I was just think about this thread. I took my first long highway excursion yesterday where the average speed was 70-75mph and I was paying attention to the rpms. I noticed that it was at about 2K RPM's to 2400RPM's at 60-75mph. Once at 60mph, it didn't raise too much at all.
-I'll ask the prior owner next time I see him. I am also installing Amsoil/Ford Friction Modifier to the differential this weekend. We'll see how that does at lowering the RPM's. The differential fluid is an oversight among alot of people, when it is a key part in reducing drag, friction, sheer, in the entire function of the car's movement. Very important that the fluid is clear and not turning blue/gray.:headbang:
Ok the orange 20 tooth gear is currently installed. The black one your showing is what I need for the 4.10? I need to do this right because my car's speedometer is checked for calibration every two years. Real pain in the ass.
Yes. That's the 4.10 gear from steeda. Its 23 tooth.
It also depends on your vin u can look it uo that way as well from FORD my mustang

Why are you in fourth at low highway speeds is what I'd like to know.
Anyways, sounds like you'll drop down to around 1,800 when you go to 5th, so you have 3.27.
Idk that's where my rpms were at when I was on the highway.if I woulda dropped it down into third at 60 my rpms would of been high.so I figured that was a good reference point for someone to have an idea of what gears I had.I'm wanting to order 410s

Dear lord. You do know that you have another gear don't you? I didn't even think about going to 3rd. I really suggest going ahead and running in overdrive (5th) at 60+. It saves so much fuel and it's so much quieter.

Anyways! 4.10s are awesome! I love mine and honestly kinda wish I had gotten 4.30s. I drive a Procharged Mach with 3.73 and it really didn't jump off the line on hard launches like my little 2v does; plus that centri squeal pissed me off. I'm definitely considering 4.30 or 4.56 when I get a 4v; it's what those motors want to run.
Yup 3.27s

Yes,i wouldn't mind going with 4.30 or 4.56.how big of a difference from the 4.10 gears??and what about gas??is it going to totally kill my mpg.its still my daily driver.

If its your dd then i wouldnt go more than 4.10 but at most 4.30.. it shouldnt kill your mpg that much just depends on how you drive. and what speeds and rpms youre at

This.
4.10s kinda suck for traveling. I go back and forth to college 400mi each way and I average 23-24 highway.
It's really not a HUGE drop, I only averaged 28-30 with 3.27s, but it's noticeable.
4.30s would get you probably 20 highway.

You got a v8?
I didn't know the mpg were that good...?

Yeah I'm confused. I get at most 22-23 going 70mph. Straight highway.

I'd assume you could do a little math and pin pt what gears your running.
You got a v8?
Yep, V8. I travel from Oklahoma to Arkansas so I usually have a pretty strong tailwind. Sorry about the confusion with the high mpgs. Could be because I baby and never really climb above 2,700 unless I'm merging. I like to follow tanker semis too, they always have huge mudflaps so they don't throw rocks at my windscreen; once I find a good one that likes to go 70-75, I set the cruise and chill for 6 hours straight down I-40!
Another reason could be that a solid 1.5 hours of my travel time is almost all downhill curves and I get to coast.
Regardless, I still pull 22-24 even with a headwind and 4.10s.
I never follow vehicles. I'm always leader of the pack.
