Cool. I agree on going as cheap as possible. I have a heat shield that was a spare from my brothers 2011 camaro and I think I can make it work so I might just try to make a cheap intake. Not looking to buy one for 200 plus bucks because eventually I will supercharge this one and it would be wiser to go cheap on the intake since it would just be replaced. Thanks!

Yeah, I'm too cheap to pay $250 for an intake. So here is version one of my intake for my car. I'm going to be painting the chromed stuff black or green, depending on where it is in the intake. The red coupler will be changed to a black one later. I'll also make a custom air box for it. I just slapped it together earlier to get it done while I had some free time. Manuals have one additional air hose, it's a PCV line. I hid an elbow in the throttle body coupler on the bottom and just ran a hose to the PCV valve. If I could find a fitting that would let me use the factory quick connect fittings, I'd do that. Might try it later. Without further adieu, the $55 intake system...

I grabbed the 9705 today. My brother had a brand new heat shield and all the fittings from his 2010 RS Camaro. He bought a K&N intake when he first got the car and they had issues with the first run of these intakes. SO K&N sent him another one and made him cut the MAF/Intake tube and filter in several places so it could not be reused instead of sending it back to them. They told him to keep the other parts as spares or toss them. I am going to use them 
. It will take a little fabrication and modding but it will all fit. I will neck down the intake tube as you did too. I opted for the 4" maf with the inserts as you did due to price and also in case I eventually tune and go with a 4" pipe / bigger throttle body etc... Keep you posted. I still need to run to HD and get the PVC today.

ok so first, Thank you Sanguin for the pics, idea and info.
I made mine for 48 bucks. I am still working on the shield that I will modify that came from my brothers 2010 Camaro. It needs to be tweaked a bit and I will post up on that later. Anyway. Got the intake built today and put about 50 miles on it with no codes. Went WOT with it and also lots of stop and go. I used some parts from Sanguin's build and also parts that I had laying around. All said and done if you were to build this and buy everything that I used it would run you $70 bucks. I have a donor heat shield as I mentioned and will mod that but I bet you could build a heat shield for under $30.
I used a larger filter which I got at Pep Boys for 34 dollars tax included (Right now Pep Boys has $5 OFF any Spectre air filter)
I made my pipe a bit shorter so it is closer to the factory inlet for air. Also, From the pic view it looks like it is hittng the brake lines and Block but it clears it by a good inch or so.

Even though I have a metal one to cut I just could not resist. Took me all of 10 minutes. $5 Rubbermaid can at HD. Not finished. Going to test it with heat for a week before I put the trim on it but it was 100 degrees outside today and I drove it for 10 miles in stop and go and it held up fine.

finished. I drove it another 10 miles last night in hot weather and it was fine so I finished it up. Had to trim a tiny bit to get the molding on and to fit well i.e. round the corners. The temp difference is very noticeable even with just my hand on each side of the intake shield with the hood open in the garage. All in to this project for $82 and didnt use anything from my brothers kit except for one coupler at the tb side.
In retrospect I could have cut the garbage can to fit even tighter to the fan shroud and followed the line of the radiator support cover closer right up to the shroud. I could get another can for 5 bucks and do that but I think it is fine the way it is. It is far enough over that it gets all the air from the stock cold air inlet and I am quite happy with how it turned out.
What type of MAF adapter? I got on from auto zone and it doesnt fit3 of the parts. The filter (I had a K&N that I've lost somewhere, brand new), the MAF adaptor, and the 4"-3" coupler. The ABS pipe (heat resistant) and black coupler came from Lowe's.
It's a selection of parts that look decent and get the job done. I think once I get the box done, it'll make it look more professional since it won't be just hanging out there. Thought hard about how to rig the PCV so it would look decent. Even there, there is room for improving imo.
