Excited going to race Friday for the first time!
Any tips? 02 GT 5 Speed.
Also the rules say if you run a 13.99 or faster you need a helmet. Ik stock that I could run high 13s or low 14s but do I still need a helmet do you think? Whether I could run that being my first time; probably not though.

Just run till they force you to wear one, no point spending money if you don't need to

Id you have any mods what so ever take a helment. Your car can go 14.1 to 14.3 if you have no mods, where inbetween will depend on your driving, how good your tires are, how well your car has been maintained, and of coarse weather plays its part. Any mods you have can push you into the 13's. Dial your rear tire pressure down to 15psi and go around the wet box if you can, if not you will need to do a good burn out to get your tires to stick. Remember you want the rubber hot so the tire is sticky if you over do the burnout your tires will become slippery. If you hotlap the car which I dont recommend you will need to do smaller and smaller burnouts to achive maximum traction. Start out launching at 5000RPM and go up from there as long as you dont spin. If you spin at 5000 try launching at 4000 and go up from there.

15psi is awfully low for street tires

15 is way to low in a street tire...if it was a semi slick you could get away with almost that, but not a straight street radial. OP if you can grab a helmet go for it. A local track i visit has a rule that makes every car wear one. So i bought a second hand open face motorcycle helmet..it's not rated for really fast times but for the 13's+ tech never cares to look as long as it's there.

Your car can do a 13.9 but my first time taking my 01 Bullitt to the track my best of the night was a 14.29.

And don't do 15psi, you may stick a little better but you will accelerate a LOT slower

Good content thanks! But 5,000 rpm launching seems high to me. Usually on the street when I launch its at about 2-3k. Never really tried higher, I don't want to damage clutch. But is that higher rpm launch because of the stickier track?
