I started my 89 mustang today(3 month starter) and it sounded as if the starter was just spinning on its on without turning the car
Tried 2 times b4 it started
1st time it jus sounded like it was spinning by itself
Can it be loose.?

More than likely it is the solenoid that pushes out the little gear to engage the starter that is malfunctioning.

+1, I also had the same issue but ended up being the battery was too low on charge.

Kind of a pain, but if you pull the starter they can bench test it at any oreiley's, autozone, etc. They can also test the battery under load and see if that is weak and contributing to the issue.

I have a 3G alt with a overdrive pulley
It's charging great
14+ on with lights and heater
Car Off is 12+

Of your battery is good then it's definitely a starter issue.

I have lifetime warranty on it
Ill jus switch it out

Sounds like it's the starter. I had the same issue a few years back and that was what it was.
