I have a 2001 Mustang V6, 105,000 miles. I had the 100,000 miles service done on the car and a recent oil and air filter change. I am going to be driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.
I want to know if there is anything I can do to make sure that my car does not overheat in the hot desert. With the air conditioner on will it over heat since the car is 8 years old? Do I need to get another service done?

It should be fine if everything is in good shape
I would wash or rinse out the radiator finns with a garden hose from in front and behind the radiator as dirt and road crud does tend to build-up there and not washed out very well if at all at the car wash. This can be tricky to get to and best not to have the engine running

Fill up some gallon jugs with water and put them in your trunk. Buy a hydrometer and check the protection of your coolant. If not ok, flush and fill. Not a bad idea whenever you change belts or hoses that are still in decent shape to keep them in your trunk just incase. Also some tools!

As long as the radiator, thermostat and water pump are functioning properly you should be all set. If it's been over 60,000 miles since your last radiator flush then it's time for that too.
