I want to eventually get around to installing my rear lca's but I heard that its not good to jack up from the pumpkin in the center of the axle. How can I jack up the rear so that I can place stands on the rear section of the frame?? Don't want to place them under the axle shaft as I want to use the jack to place under the axle to release tension and line up bolts

Really? Maybe it has changed over the years but i always jack up my mustangs from there
That's how I used to do it in the past, but googling it I read in some forums that u shouldn't on these. This is my 1st new car and I'm afraid to do it wrong... I sound lien a newbie but things change sometimes

Nobody in history has ever done any damage to a live axle rear by jacking it up from the cast iron part in the middle. Sometimes clowns have popped the seal by jacking to close to the cover plate, or wrecked a u joint from hitting the flange but, there's no way in hell you'll ever hurt this by doing it right and hitting only iron. I'd say roll 'er up on a couple bits of 2X6 so you get a little more height and pump 'er up, it's no issue. And stop worrying, you'll live longer.

Trust me, you'll want to put the stands under the axle. You can still easily shift it around a touch to line up bolts but, you'll want that thing at normal loaded height for installing these. If your jack fails while you've got an arm out it could be pretty disastrous.

I stuck a piece of 2x4 under mine and jacked it up today that way - just kept it back away from the edge of the cover. Drove it afterwards, nothing fell off. :)

Replace my lca's a couple of weeks ago jacked mine up in the center never had a problem doing it that way been working on cars for 20 yrs

They just say that because your car is less stable with only one point of contact to the ground in the middle and it could slip off the jack easier, i have jacked from the pumpkin before too and haven't had any problems

Hence the don't get under it like that and use jackstands out at the sides advice.

Some rear ends don't take to this as well, though, like the Ford 8" that has a pretty rounded and somewhat slippery steel rear case and an exposed bolt low on the diff and ring gear assembly.

You just need to use common sense, though.
