how to remove the steering column on a 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible?

disconnect the linkage at the steering box,
disconnect the mounts under the dash,
disconnect all electrical connections,
pull

magley has the right answer, but I'm a firefighter and we have 'other' ways of removing steering columns, but unfortunitely there won't be much left of your car LOL.

Don't be afraid to do as magley says, just be sure to remember how you take it out, it will have to go back in the oposite way. Good luck,

Remove the 2 nuts at the bottom of the column, disconnect the electrical plug and pull the outer steering cover off. if you want the entire unit out unbolt the steering box 3 bolts

Also don't forget to disconnect the battery before you start.

Go to the auto parts store and buy a Chilton or Haynes manual for your car. It'll give you the steps and the tools to do it right plus anything else you could want to do to your car.
