Has anyone out there put a 4 cyl thunderbird intercooled turbo engine in a classic 65 mustang? How did it go? Gotta be lighter than a foxbody thunderbird. Maybe it's the best of both worlds- fuel mileage until you spool the turbo up. Any articles or feedback welcome.

Nice looking Mustang! It's been done, but I wouldn't recommend it, it's a little to radical. I would just go with a 302 and 5 speed O.D. for fuel economy. but it wouldn't be any harder than a 5.0 FI

Having owned both SVO's and TC's, the fuel economy wasn't as good as expected.

In my opinion you would totally ruin the value of a classic car by putting the lousy 4 cylinder T-bird engine in it. The SC T-bird engine was very underpowered and extremely slow. You would be better off leaving the stock engine in the car.

If you want power, then put a carb'ed 5.0 engine in it, or build a 5.0 and install one of the stroker kits in it.

By the way the Mustang in the picture looks really nice!

I believe Ford put that engine in a Mustang for several years. The SVO I think it was called.
