I'm sure this is quite newbish and I accept the laughter at my expense. I installed some LEDs under my dash wired into the cigarette lighter. the LEDs use .24amps reattached the battery and they turned on. When I flipped the switch to turn them off I blew a the fuse which is a 20 amp fuse. I replaced the fuse and the same thing happens. I removed the switch and turned them on and off by touching the positive wires together and it works fine. Does this mean I need a fuse with a higher amp rating? I believe the one I have now is a 10 amp

A higher amp fuse 25 or 30 amp might work but the 10 will definitely blow because it is smaller then the original 20 amp (hope that made sense)

No the fuse is the one connected to the cigarette lighter I tied them in together and the switch was just one I bought

Mine are under the dash and I just wanted to toggle it with a switch they work fine without the switch but no way to turn them off. I am pretty sure it is the switch because its only rated for 10 amps and its a 20 amp fuse

I have lights on my rear view but I'd rather have them be on while doors are shut to

Well I feel dumb. The problem was I had the negative also on the switch. I should have just grounded it directly to the cigarette lighter. They work fine now :p
