is the 8.8 rear, in the stock 03 mustang V6?

It has a 7.5 rear

Gt has the 8.8 rear

It has a 7.5 rear end and you can get gears and a LSD for them no problem. The only reason to switch to an 8.8 is if your putting down pretty big horsepower

Or if you want to do some hard launches at the track... I've heard stories of them breaking from hard launches... Hell i've even heard of 8.8s breaking from too hard launches with a decent amount of power.

IMO if your putting down near the same power as a GT you should get an 8.8

Still rockin the 7.5 just scarred to use sticky tires haha

No it doesn't... I just upgraded to the auburn LSD from am

Get a good LSD and go with 3.73 or 4.10 gears and you'll be putting a lot of hp to the pavement

Your 7.5 rear end can handle up to 300 hp if you change the diff. And gears only reason to change to a 8.8 is if you're putting out over 300 but the 7.5 may withstand it just depends

Yes all gt 8.8 rears have a factory LSD, if it comes with high mileage look into the carbon fiber clutch pack rebuild kit (AM has them at a decent price)
