Well y'all, just thought I'd give you guys a little inside tour of what's been going on with my Cobra.. A while back I noticed my rearend has some slack in it. So I take it to my mechanic and he says all of the bushings in my rearend are out and they need replacing.. He said it would be a smooth $500 for everything.. Well I'm 19 and in college with no money so I said ok, I guess I'll just drive it as is for now. Well then, about a month later, I'm getting on Interstate, (and like everyone else with a Stang I'm pretty well flooring it), and it dies. Well I changed the fuel filter and it fixed it. Temporarily. Then it started it again, so I changed it again and now it's doing it again so me and my dad are pretty sure it's my fuel pump. Luckily my friend has an 04 Cobra pump assembly he said he would sell me for $125!! Anyways, on top of all of that, my battery is going out, and my alternator started squeaking yesterday.. Yay me.
Just thought I'd share. Any help, advice, thoughts, or input is much appreciated!

Look at it this way, a TON of people would love to have a cobra in the first place. So a few problems is just a minor inconvenience.

Wait until its like 20+ years old. My 240sx, is falling apart at the seams. I've sunk tons of cash into it and it doesn't even have the prestige following the cobras have. But it was my first car and I'll never let it go. Lol

Just part of it man. Learn to do as much as you can without using a mechanic and your money will go much further.
I'm pulling the built solid I put in my cobra last winter because i'm pretty sure I bent one of the moser axles and the crush sleeve is worn out. Time for bigger axles and 9" ends...it never stops.

Things break, it's why you should learn now to work on as much as possible so you can diy. It's the only way normal people can afford cars as play things.

That said, is it possible to disassemble the Cobra fuel housing and use a walbro or something like that? I'm always leery of used fuel pumps and a lot of guys in GM cars have had success throwing walbros in the factory fuel pump assembly for around $100. Way less than the $200-300 for a stock pump new.

Yea man i know exactly how you feel my car has been in the shop for two week and yea I did my fuel pump myself and with a couple of buddy's and it was pretty hard but fun to learn how and I get a brand new pump that was a better then oem for around the same price I think man so I would look around

Do you ever get any codes from your PCM when it runs bad? There are a ton of little things that can make it run bad. If you get a check engine light, check those codes. Good luck! I hope you can get your rear diff rebuilt soon. Maybe tax refund time..? :good:

Sounds like fuel pump. You can pull the frps and have it checked as well

Yea. It throws a p0190 Fuel Pressure Rail Sensor.

I can't tell you how many times I have had this error code. First it was a dirty MAF that cause the code to come up since a dirty MAF supposedly shuts down the fuel pump and thus there is no pressure. The next time the fuel rail pressure sensor was actually bad and finally the third time it was the fuel pump.

That is crazy.. Well my dad got called into work this morning. So we're gonna tackle it in the AM. Hopefully the pump will fix it..

Ok guys. I have an update. Turns out it was just a Cobra hat with dual Ford GT pumps on it. SCOOORRRREEE!!!! Anyways, I'm not planning on doing FI, so I just put one in the stock setup and now I have a spare to keep. Lol. So anyways. Gonna put everything back together tomorrow and see what happens. Wish me luck!
