Motor Trend's "Best Driver's Car"....350R places second but beats an impressive list.

If you are interested in such things, a new article in Motor Trend pits 12 of the best driving cars in the world against one another -- with Probst doing the track testing. The 350R MORE than holds its own, beating the:

In order of finish from last to first:

Aston Martin V12 Vantage S
BMW M4 GTS
Nissan GTR
Jaguar F-Type SVR
Acura NSX
Audi R8 V10 Plus
Mercedes-AMG GTS
Dodge Viper ACR
Chevrolet Camaro SS (1LE)
Porsche 911 Carrera S
Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R
McLaren 570S

Mustang, price as tested = $66,990 (I know, good luck finding one at that price, but still....)
McClaren, price as tested = $219,770

Ford is building some truly world class handling suspensions and that VOODOO engine redline!!!! Man oh man!

The Viper has no competition when it comes to the track. That car has always been a monster. I hate that it is going to be discontinued in 2017.

I intentionally left off the lap times, because MT also stated in the article that the lap times alone did not indicate how much fun it was to drive the cars. They included the ratings as a street car as well, and in this the Viper is simply unlivable, as were many of the others.
And, even if you rate them ONLY as a track car, the 350R hold its own.

I'll take the Viper.
Hmmmmmm......I'll take the flat plane 8,200 rpm V8, AND drive it every day on the street in air conditioned comfort.......at half the price........you take the truck engine.
I'll admit that the Viper has improved, but the super car market is NOT going to miss its passing. It has always been a brute and one that wants to kill you....less so with the new one though -- all it wants to do is maim you, starting with your butt and then moving up to your ears.

Why I like it so much.

Pick your poison.
Exactly. The Viper is raw power with one purpose. It devours anything in its way. If you forget to respect a Viper it will remind you quickly to pay attention.

How many Vipers vs Mustangs are responsible for mowing down crowds at a show? Lol

Could that be because there are probably 10,000 times as many Mustangs on the street?
That, and the same grey-hair demographics as the Corvette.:whistling:....of which I am....

MT must have also based their list on driveability AND purchase price.
The Camaro didn't fare so well on the track.

I was surprised to see that the Mustang was faster than the Porsche!

^ yet a 220k car won; not many can drop that in a toy.
That little Porsche is impressive. Randy managed to lap it quicker than a 991 turbo S and GT3 on willow springs.
They also spoke highly of the Grand Sport Corvette. Next Head 2 Head.

I'm not going to pretend like I understand how the staff at MT ultimately makes their "Best Car" decisions.
From what I've read about the McLaren though, it seems like the general consensus is that it is a very well executed car. A car that could be daily driven, and will still hold it's own on the track. It can be driven fast by a broad spectrum of performance oriented drivers.
The Viper, on the other hand, is undeniably fast, but it requires a high level of skill to turn out numbers like Probst did. And they aren't very good daily driver cars.
