OK do tell what your packing. Everyone knows bigger is better LOL j/k

Ill start by letting my cat out of the bag. Im running a 557 in my 89 coupe. Thats a 4.44 bore 429-460 block with a 4.5" stroke. On top of that Im capable of using 400-500HP more with the NX kit I will be using this season.

So what you got?

Confirmed wife picked up a 70 460 to install in her 84 project car. It will be mild running high 11s or low 12s. Gotta love a woman who loves cubes and racing :D

Depends on what block your using?
Im shoving hopefully 1000 with a SCJ block and Im not worried.

My dad use to race a 460 in his 69 falcon. it's was decently fast. it ran in the 10's

I have always wanted to drop a carbed 460 into an 85 Mustang GT. I saw one that had a 460 under the stock hood, with an 82 GT hood scoop that really made me want one, too. I never would have know a 460 could fit so stealthy, if I had not seen it for myself.
It was not even a radical setup, EGR dual plane 4BB intake, stock carb modified to flow around 760cfm, aluminum heads of some type, mild cam, but it would do 11's. It was heavy, but not too bad, according to the owner. Hell, it even had the dual snorkel air cleaner housing with 7.5 liter 4bbl H.O. on it. That was awesome, IMHO :D

my mom has a GT bentley concept car that is running a 700hp engine that runs 5.7sec a quater mile and pics up 0-60 in 2.7sec

700HP and runs 5.7 in 1/4 :shock: Must only weigh like 100lbs hahaha

BBF heads (even the small valve ones) can easily support
500 BHP with porting and cam... I saw an intake test in SuperFord
that got nearly 1hp/cube (I believe they got around 450)
in a 30 over 460 (466) running an Edelbrock Performer and
really mild cam, unported passenger car heads (small chamber & small valves)
I believe the cam was a 218/228 grind, pretty small for such a big engine.

But V6 practice gets ~ 1HP/Cube using smaller cams that are roller :)
I did it using a 215* lobe with only .495" lift and I have seen similar
results on 5.0's using a 218* flat tappet lobe (good heads tho).

BTW, I have ported BBF heads, it was a pleasure to have
all that room to work, and compared to Pontiac 400 or 455
heads, the Ford stuff is way nicer :)

Whats the difference between a 427 BB and a 428 BB? My dad salvaged most of 427 out of a wrecked 68 GT500 that I want to put into my 66 Coupe but This guy offered to sell me a incomplete 428 and parts for it to put into my 66. Common sense dictates that the 428 would seem better because its bigger (only by 1 cubic inch) but the 427 is out of a high end 68. Which one is better and more heavy duty. I heard the 427 was more of a racing block like the 385. Im not really looking for super performance, I just want a stock rebuild and I want the engine to last when I pound on it if nessesary. Any Input would be awesome. Im still considering leaving the 289 under the hood and putting the BB in a later model.

the 427 and 428 are the same style, but the 428 had a smaller bore and ~4" stroke.
Using a 428 crank in a 427 block makes around a 455" plus engine, depending on overbore. The 428 is best for street and the 427 makes HP at higher RPM's.
Good head porting is essential for any size engine, keeyed towards the cam and
RPM range to match the overall intended use of the engine. There are plenty of
head options too.

i got a 240 cubic inch beast V-6 i just wish i had a 281 :(
