hey guys so back in march I had longtubes installed along with a whole bunch of other stuff but anyway.. I got mbrp stainless 1 7/8's headers on the car with an mbrp offroad hpipe. that was just as the car hit 55k miles. I re used the OEM 02 sensors as there wasnt an issue with them. my mechanic said the car may go through 02 sensors every so often with the headers. we didnt put downstreams in we just plugged the holes which is what I did back when I put the offroad x pipe on the car with the stock manifolds. about a month ago the car started running weird and threw the p2629 code. I thought nothing about it replaced the sensors and the car ran great. just tonight the car throws the same code but is running better then it did the last time. I literally put 400 miles on it at most since replacing them. do you guys think anything funny is going on here? lmk sorry for the long post. I have a 2011 gt and btw the mechanic who dud the headers made sure he didnt use the o2 sensor extensions because he knew they could be problematic (he has a 14 gt with long tube headers) . I was thinking maybe replace the 1 o2 sensor again and try wrapping my collectors in heat wrap. do you guys think that could help?

One thing that you can try, is to swap the 02 sensors to the opposite side that they are currently installed, and then clear the codes. If the code follows the 02 sensor to the other side of the engine, then you will know that there is indeed a problem with that 02 sensor. If the code stays with bank 2, then you will have to start looking at some of the other causes of that code.
Some report that wrapping the headers helps, if it turns out that it is a heat related problem.

I already exchanged the bad sensor and put it in. drive it for a little bit and its not throwing codes or anything now. must've been a bad sensor once again... I am going to wrap the collectors when I can get it on a lift. does the 2629 code indicate any certain issue the sensor is having or pretty much just telling you theres a problem? this is the same code I got the first time a month ago

It is a generic code that indicates that the PCM has detected a malfunction in that 02 sensor circuit. It may be caused by a faulty 02 sensor or a number of other causes. It does not specifically diagnose the sensor itself.

yeah that's what I was thinking I swapped the sensor with a new one and the problem was fixed.. as of now. I will wrap them first before I try anything else but I see some people moving the o2 sensors further up as well

Sensors need to be at the 10:00 and 2:00 position. If they're at the 3:00 and 9:00 position then that's a problem as they will collect moisture and crack in the ceramic part. You can try wrapping them first though.

that's how they look on the car. looks like they are about 10 and 2. the 02 sensor that failed that I pulled off yesterday didnt look too bad but I mean it only had 400 miles on it at most. the first time when the original ones went bad they lasted about 1000-1200 miles after the header install

Those are in the wrong position and are trapping moisture. They need to be angled up like I stated in the 10:00 and 2:00 position. Those are set at 3:00 and 9:00. Still in your climate it shouldn't be a problem. Are you using OEM sensors?

I was now it has Bosch sensors in it that's what I could get. if that's the wrong position then why did mbrp put the bungs in that way? weird

Everyone in the aftermarket puts the bungs in that spot EXCEPT Kooks which are actually mid length headers. That's why I always suggest those headers to avoid these headaches.

I did extensive header research and these headers seemed to be great quality and fit right in my budget I was very impressed with the quality of these headers but clearly this is they're flaw lol. so should I just wrap the collectors in header wrap and see how it works out first? I'd have to find a place I trust to relocate the sensors because at the end of the day they were 1000 bucks lol
