Hey Guys, I'm looking into getting side scoops and louvers for my car. On American muscle, the louvers are about 120 untainted and 200 painted. Would it be a less expensive to just have someone paint them professionally? Or am I better getting them pre painted?

Also, should I go with American muscle ones or MRT louvers? American muscle offers the adhesive strips and adhesive glue, but MRT gives brackets. I'm afraid someone will try and steal the adhesive ones.

I had one of the dg custom quarter window scoops on my 2012 fall off on the freeway one night. They were held on my the 3m tape. Now i didnt put them on the last owner did but i would have thought they would have stuck for more than a year. But i guess i was wrong. Lol.

If it was 3M tape, they likely fell off from improper installation. You gotta make sure that the window is clean and the temperature high enough. If done correctly, they should stick for years. And stay away from tainted scoops, eewwwww.

Even with proper installation I don't think I could trust just some tape to hold scoops on. Louvers maybe, but I would be too paranoid about the scoops flying off.

X2 to prep work installing...gotta get the surface clean and remove all dirt/oils, ect. Most skip this and slap them on. I've read were folks have broken back spoilers after removing the 4 bolks, then trying to get them off because of the 3M tape. That stuff is industrial. Factory uses it for a reason.

As to the original OP's question, I would recommend you talk with a few body shops in your area to see what they would charge for painting these side scoops. Take a picture with you. It's a bit of work to prepare the pieces, paint them, clear coat them, then wet sand and buff. Don't be shocked at a high price, say $100.00 or more. Most body shops would rather spend the time doing collision work then to paint a few small pieces. They make more money working on larger items.

My next question would be pointed at AM; how good is the quality of their paint work? Anyone here on this site bought anything from them painted? There's a thread posted here right now about a rear spoiler order from AM that is on it's third try; first shipment had a broken tip, second had surface issues, and the third one is on its way.

NelsonQuezadaJr,

I definitely suggest checking with some local autobody paint shops for prices, but I think you'll quickly find that they'll charge a lot more than 80$ all said and done. It's still always best to shop around and see what available in your area though.

Also, keep in mind that we do use Ford OEM paint to color our Pre-Painted parts. So, matching your factory paint is no problem!

I have 2 sets of painted Xenon louvers that I'm selling, because I ultimately decided on Eleanors, that I still have yet to install.

Both sets are black. One set has perfect paint and have never been installed - selling those for $175 + shipping

And the other has flex stress cracks in the paint, under the clear coat. Not super noticable from a far, but you can see it up close. These were on my car for a short time, but had the body shop remove due to the stress cracks in the paint, and made them purchase and paint a new set for me (loooooong body shop horror story) - selling those for $125 + shipping.

ETA:

These are the ones - http://www.americanmuscle.com/xenon-2005-c-pillar-scoop.html

You can see the set that was installed for a short time on the pic in my siggy
