I'm fixin to start pulling the engine in my car for the first time. I hear it's easier to pull the engine and five speed trans all together. Does anyone know of a good write up for this? As always, any help is much appreciated!

The best write up I know is in a service manual.;)
It prolly wouldn't hurt to get your hands on a leveler for the cherry picker so you can tilt it out of there. If not you want to pick it up with the front end high to help squeak it out of there.

Really the best thing you can do is take pictures, label all your parts. I just use masking tape on the harnesses and write on them. Then bag all your bolts. These tips are the most important things you can do to make you install go smoothly.

I found a good write up for pulling the engine out alone. And that's all I can find in my Chiltons manual. I hear it's easier to stab it back in together vs trying to line the engine up with the trans when going back in. Guess I'll take a couple hours or so to just analyze it and see what I've got going on. Thanks for the tips for a smooth install!

+1. That's the best advice. I just pulled mine without the trans and i labeled every wire but it wasnt until i got about halfway thru i realized i had bolts galore. Also if its anything like mine most of the bolts have been on there for 20+ years so get yourself some PB Blaster. Be prepared for some unexpected cost adders aswell, i found numerous broken vacuum lines, rubber hoses that crumbled apart when i took them off, i even managed to break my power steering pump lol

Cool man. Now that I know it's not near impossible, I think I'll just go by the instructions in the Chiltons for pulling it without the trans. If I have any questions, I'll post them under this thread vs starting another one. Thanks for the help guys!!

Another thing thats not necessary but helps is to pull the front bumper and fenders off too. I only did it because im replacing mine but itl give you quite a bit more reach and you can get the picker closer if you need too

This is prolly a goofy question. Do I have to worry about any damage if it freezes while the antifreeze is drained from the car?

Will do man. Thanks for all your help so far! Didn't get as far as I wanted today. Had to go look at the Expedition I think I'm pickin up for my wife tomorrow. Basically radiator out, accessories needed off, headers off. Still workin though. The write up I'm following says to pull the upper intake to get to wires, terminals, and vac lines behind it. I was thinking: I could lift it up a bit after unhooked from tranny and motor mounts and do the same thing. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for the help y'all. You guys rock!!!

Pulling the upper intake would make it alot easier. There are 2 bolts i believe on each end and the plate on top that says ford 5.0 high output on it needs to come off to get to the 2 bolts that go down through the center and it comes right off so you can get to the lines in the back

How many bolts have you taken off of it? The front 2 are behind the distributor cap area. 6 bolts total, 2 in the back, 2 in the front and 2 on top. 16hrs is nuts man. I work 10s monday thru friday and 8 on Saturdays
