Hello, I currently own a 1999 Camaro and it probably will last me the next two years. After that I want to get an older car, probably like before 1988. I want a really fast car with a big engine and 8 cylinders.

-If I go on Craigslist and type in Firebird or Trans Am or IROC Z, I get a lot of nice cars like a 1987 IROC and 1979 Firebird etc. The details say things like rebuilt engine and such.

-Since Im not too sure about these things which engines/car would be fast. Is the 305 block fast? Also which engines/models would be best from that era?

It depends.

305 is generally a small V8 engine.

GM's most popular engine is the 350 small block, which has 350HP and was used in Corvettes and Camaro's and many other cars. It is the longest produced and best selling engine in the world.

If it is Firebird or Camaro, the closer to 1970 it is, the faster it will probobly be. The engine you want is 305-455.
