My 2009 GT has rainwater getting into and collecting in the trunk. The carpet is soaked and the spare tire well is filling up. I don't know how it's getting in. Has anyone else experienced this?

Have you had the car in an accident before, are all your seals in good shape

One way to find the leak get inside your trunk with a flag light and close the trunk with someone outside watering your car. You should see the water coming in, check behind your side panels too

I never experienced it in my trunk but I did have it inside on the passenger side floor up front. Found out one of the drains was clogged inside the engine bay right next to the firewall. Cleaned it out and never leaked again. For the trunk I'm not sure. Are the gutters all cleaned out on top where the lid is?

It happened to my wife's 2012 Chevy Malibu. Took it to the dealer they said it was a loose taillight. That seem to fix it but we trading it in for a ford explorer in feb.

Rain water

Thanks to all for your responses.
She's never been wrecked. The seals all look good. The tail lights seem to be snug.
My wife has a 2007 mustang which seems identical in that regard and it doesn't leak.
It never leaked before now.
I will next try the flashlight from inside trick. That is a good idea and I think it should work.
I'll keep posted.

I have the same problem, it's the seal, on the top right corner, sometimes the factory wire harness falls in between the seals, I'll post pictures to better explain but I'm 70% sure that's your problem

I found the problem, by using the flashlight from inside the trunk/ garden hose outside trick.
The water is coming in at the upper left corner of the back window glass. I will have to go to an auto glass replacement specialist and have them remove/re-install/re-seal the back glass I suppose.
Thanks to everyone for your responses.

BTW, I have already had the Explorer, I did like it, put 200k miles on her. Not ready to go back though. :D

Your car is still pretty new 09, dealer should cover that expense and fix it... But the faster thing is to just take it to a small shop and fix it yourself.
