Saw a short throw shifter on ebay. Have driven a short throw on other cars and was looking for opinions on whether it's worth it on an '05 V6? Also, how hard is it to install? Not the greatest mechanic but trying to learn. Thoughts?

the one I saw was a Steeda but I've also seen Hurst as well. Just trying to figure out if it's worth it.

Not sure on 05 but 99-04 its 4 bolts that hold it in place. Remove, gasket maker would be a better route than a put in one, screw back, wait for a good while. Maybe next day then wala welcome to the short throw world.

Why gasket maker, thicker?

It seals up to how the base and tranny are shaped, grooved and what not. makes a perfect size, too think is bad so dont go crazy with it. But a good layer, about as much that comes out when you squeeze the tube, just once around should be good.
In other words it takes the shape of the two pieces coming together

Get an MGW shifter, smoothest shifter on the market... If its your dd you will love it after 15 minutes of driving... It's also spring-loaded so if you feel like slamming gears you won't miss and will do it fast.

the 99-04 mustang short throw shifter is different! I installed one on my car took about an hour with jackstands. Its defiantly worth it... very firm shifts and more comfortable when shifting fast. Just a flick of the wrist!
