Should I buy a Rebuilt Title

2015 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Snakeyes
Hello, I'm currently shopping for a mustang GT and came across one on facebook that has a rebuilt title. The car was involved in a wreck on the front end and when asking about the wreck, he said there that the radiator core support was damaged but not the frame. The Mustang is a 2015 GT premium coupe with 30,000 miles. It's listed for $24,000 at the moment but has been listed for a week. Would this be a smart purchase decision? The car has a manual transmission and looks to be in excellent condition from what I can see in the pictures. I viewed the accident pictures from the auction website and it looks to be that the front passenger side was the only sport with damage. Seems to be that he has driven for 9,000 miles and describes that it runs and drives great.

VIN is 1FA6P8CF2F5433812

If you plan to keep the car, and never sell it, you might be okay as far as usage. However, $24k for a ‘15 with a salvage title is simply too much IMHO.

If you do decide to purchase it, take it to a shop that does a thorough pre-purchase inspection. You’ll have to pay for the service, but it’s money we’ll spent.

IMHO, take it to a frame shop and have them do a complete inspection including on the rack........ also have a pro-shop do a scan including mode 6 file which will show all codes including their history and how often each code was re-set....then you will know exactly what you are getting

Don't do it, never buy a car with anything but a clean title; no salvage yard or rebuilt.

I agree. Salvage title means it's your car forever. Doesn't matter if the frame is bent or not. At $20K doesn’t sound like much of a discount anyway.
A rebuilt title means that an insurance company has "totalled" the car, following a major accident ( damage exceeded 70% of value ) . . . Run away from this car, fast !
It seems that @Gleaming isn’t returning to read the replies. I’d really like to hear what his final decision was, and the factors that brought him there.
Run away from this car, fast !
