I was at the track last weekend for the first time, somethings I observed and had some questions about.

- Why were folks letting air out of their tires? What is the purpose? I'm guessing for better traction? Is there a recommended psi for the rear and / or front?

- Slicks and rims, what's the best and whats economical if there is such a thing? One guy switched out his slicks back to DD wheels and tires and look liked the slicks had just had it. Are they only good for a few passes?

- I felt really comfortable on the right lane versus the left? Folks were saying the left was running faster? Is this a myth or is this accurate? I did not find it to be fact for me. Is there a big difference in lane choices or is it all mental?

- tools were used, which i get, but I didn't see what people used for filling the air back up. What's recommended to have?

i'll answer those in order

1. most guys like to drop the back tires down below 20 psi when on the track...it lets the sidewalls flex when you launch so it can hook

2. slicks always look like they're trash...when you see wire that's when they're through. Slicks have huge track lives for the time to time person..now seeing weekly action will wear them down fast..he may have swapped out because his slicks couldn't get any traction. Depending on track prep they may have been hurting him

3. when they were saying the left was running faster it's not a track to track thing. it's prep dependent and also how well the cars are hooking from night to night. The left side was probably tacked better and cars were able to stay in the groove much easier so they didn't have to let off.

4. i take a $20 portable DC air compressor with me to the track for airing tires back up.
