I just installed the SR Performance lowering springs and everything seemed to be fine til yesterday. I took it out for a drive and really got on it, slammed into 2nd and the ass end got really loose. I've had it happen before but not like this. Recently installed JLT cai and Pypes bomb axel backs. Those two upgrades shouldn't have much effect on the power, Atleast I don't think. My question is would the lowering springs effect the rear traction that much? I did the install myself, as I do with everything, and everything seemed nice and tidy. Did I mess up the install anywhere? Thanks.

It doesn't sound like you made any installation mistakes if there's no issues when driving normal. Lowering springs will change your suspension's geometry so, you'll need adj aftermarket suspension components to correct it (LCA's, UCA's, Panhard bar, etc). Also, it's normal for straight line acceleration traction to decrease after lowering a car because there's less front to back weight transfer, which is good for taking corners, but bad for the drag strip.

Try out some new adj Lower Control Arms (LCA's) and an adj Panhard bar. They should make a big difference in the way your Mustang grips the road!

Hey thanks, that all makes a lot of sense. Just didn't know if there might be something wrong since it was my first time installing any suspension parts on my own.

did you get an alignment yet? or check to see if your rear axle is still square with the rear of your car? lowering sometimes pushes your rear axle out of alignment.... tape a plumb bob (string with a nut on the end will work) to the top edge of each rear fender then measure the distance from the string to the tire. If the numbers are different then you need an adjustable pan hard bar. use the same method to adjust the pan hard bar to the point where the measurement is the same on both sides. then go get an alignment.

im willing to bet that you need a panhard but in the off chance you dont then it would still be a good idea to get an alignment

Well I know that the driver side is off by less than half an inch but hadnt thought anything of it. Like I said, first time doing any suspension work. Would that be what your talking about?

what he is referring to is where the rear end is sitting....it normally sits center but when lowered it can shift from left to right....to fix this a pan hard bar is installed

well an alignment won't do anything since you only get a front wheel alignment...the panhard bar will be the fix if your rear is off center...it's actually my next purchase

That makes sense. Any panhard bars that are better than the others? I order all my parts thru AM and see they used the J&M on a project car.

Lmteel,

J&M's makes quality suspension components for an affordable price, I highly recommend them if you're on a budget. As you've already seen, we've used their Panhard bars, LCA's, etc on our own Company cars and have nothing but good things to say about them! Needless to say, their Panhard bar will easily take care of your suspension needs.

Shane is steering you in the rite direction, go with J&M adjustable and you will be good to go. And wait till you get the Panhard in there to do your alignment.
