Drove dad's 11 gt w track pack... these cars come w short throw from factory? It's spring loaded and not very tall (shift knob,and arm) I did not want to pull the boot off to look cuz it looked easy to break

They are sort of, compared to some cars. You can still get new shifters with 40% less reduction than the current stock shifter. They don't sit lower but they don't throw as far.

You can't just pull the boot off. You unscrew the shifter and pull the whole center dash out.

So how do I tell if it's after market I have a 07 and have zero experience w 2010+ stangs it feels aftermarket... if that is stock it's really going to piss me off! I'm on my second short throw an still not happy... this thing is short, notchy, and zero play in or in between gears... in neutral from 1st to 6 it's maybe 1-2 inches

Like nosympathy said, unscrew the shift knob, open up the center console compartment and lift up the back of cup holder, then disconnect the trunk/hazard/TC buttons. ill show you in pictures up to the boot. I don't have have a stock mt82, so I don't wanna confuse you after that.

It really isn't. It looks like it, but you can have that center piece pulled out in seconds. I do it every now and then to clean that piece. Easier than cleaning it still in the car.

I was shocked at how easy it was to get it all apart ... and not break anything. And, it went back together with no drama, either.

The stock ones are shorter throw than ours...I test drove the new 5.0 and I was shocked as to how much shorter it was. LUCKY!!!

If I had a dime for everytime I missed second before getting it tuned from the skip shift feature, and everytime I have hit no mans land shifting from 2-3 i would be a rich man.

One of my next mods is to install a new shifter for sure. One with less play. Being able to put the car in 3rd gear, and move the shifter back and forth almost a full inch is insane. lol.

I haven't driven any of the 05-09 models to know what their shifters were like tho, to be fair.
