Im seriously considering buying an X-Charger Xtreme Supercharger which is intended to add 140+ horsepower. My question is, how would a GT compare?

My old car - 2006 convertible so carrying extra weight for that, plus a 6 point roll bar to comply with safety rules so add about 80 more pounds - ran mid 12's with the Xcharger Xtreme on a very conservative tune.

The last day at the track before I sold it and ordered the 2013, two new 5.0's were there. I made a pass and one of the drivers came down to talk. He said "I thought you'd be quicker than 12.7, I can hear the blower." He then looked at the open hood, counted spark plug wires and said, " okay now I'm impressed". Turned to the other guy and said " we're getting our a$$handed to us by a six."

A stock 4.6 runs mid 13s. A xcharger on your 4.0. Will get you to mid 12s. Someone correct me if im wrong

Wait, a supercharged v6 beat a new (11-13) GT? Wow.

Yes, they both were stock though with no mods, and probably could have used a "driver mod" as well. But I also beat other un-modified 5.0's with that car and mildly modified 4.6's.

It was always more fun to beat up on the Camaro's though. Especially the guy whose friend called out as we lined up "no problem man, it is only a V6". Treed him and he couldn't run me down and took him by 0.5 at the stripe. His Camaro made a lot of noise, but that was all. They didn't want to talk afterwards for some reason and packed up shortly after.

Wow man. Thats really cool. What other mods have you done?

Do you think my 05 v6 might stand up to a 5.0 stock? The hp is greatly less, but Im looking at the best supercharger I can get.

The Xcharger Xtreme is a great supercharger, I really liked it when I had the 2006. It doesn't give you the biggest dyno sheet, but I was running quicker than guys with other systems who had bigger numbers so I didn't care about the dyno numbers - 1/4 mile times were what I wanted. It was also very consistent and always ran within .15 pass after pass. I wish I could get a similar set up for my 2013. With a supercharger you can hang with a stock 5.0, and can take some of them

In addition to the 6 point cage (convertible so once I ran quicker than 13.49 I had to add the cage, unlike a coupe) I had:

3.55 gears in 8.8" rear end, stock tlok;
LPW girdle;
HotPart LCA and adjustable UCA;
Shaftmasters 4" aluminum one piece driveshaft;
Mickey Thompson ET Street drag radials, 275-50x15 on Jeg's sport star 15x8 wheels
Can't remember the brand or size for the front skinnies, but they were on Jeg's sport star 15x3.5 wheels;
Jerry Stranigan port and polish stock throttle body;
FRPP rear springs, stock front;
FRPP shocks and struts;
UMI relocation brackets set in the upper hole;
Dual exhaust with GTA mufflers and FRPP X pipe;
and a 93 tune from Doug (now at C&L) that was running rich so very safe and conservative but left some power on the table.

That's all I can think of for performance mods

Thats an impressive list bro! I was going to do a 5.4 engine swap, but the troubles involved seem too much when you make the supercharger setup sound so great. Pretty big jump on torque and performance eh?

i'd assume a supercharged 4.0 would be a decent track car...an m112 on a new edge netted my friend a mid 12 second pass, but it's also lighter then an s197...but i'd say 12-13s would keep you smiling

Thanks - it was a build over time, all toward doing the Xcharger eventually. Each time I made an adjustment I only did one at a time so I could determine the results at the track. Made it a lot easier to determine the real effect of the mod, and what to do to tweak that mod before adding the next one.

My car never showed very impressive dyno numbers, 295 RWHP and 313 torque. Others have had as much as 330 RWHP and torque. Dyno is just a tuning tool though, the track performance is what matters. With some time on the dyno doing tuning adjustments I could have put up bigger numbers, but never had the time to get back to the tuner to get it done.

But definitely a huge increase over stock or even with an intake and tune (best dyno on that was 180 RWHP and 208 torque).

Before I sold it and ordered the 2013 I was thinking of doing a full engine build and changing the blower to a more efficient one. There is only one prototype out right now (check out Nice Pony over at The Mustang Collective Forums - Powered by vBulletin for the prototype - he still needs to get a dyno tune done on it but the tuner hasn't been very cooperative).

That certainly sounds like the smart thing to do. As expensive of many upgrades are, it's almost difficult not to buy them one at a time, so I may do that. I also plan on upgrading my throttle body since the forced induction should exponentially increase the moderate gain you'd get without a supercharger.

After buying t and installing the supercharger, what would you recommend as the #1 must upgrade part in order to keep the car in good standing with the increased power?

If you get the x charger it comes with a new and bigger TB

#1 is to upgrade the rear end. The 7.5 won't last long, and with the increased power you need the tlok to get the power to the ground. After that, you really need dual exhaust because of the increased flow. A friend had the stock exhaust on his and did a base line pull with dyno tuning. After swapping to a dual exhaust they retuned the car because he was picking up so much more on the base line pull.

No you don't get a new throttle body with it, just a new intake. You swap the stock throttle body over.

Just to throw my 2 cents in, a good roll cage will improve 1/4 times. Especially in a vert. The amount that it stiffens the chassis to improve traction is worth more then the extra weight. But a 12 second 6 sounds awesome for sure.

Everyone seems to have issues with the BBK throttle body on the 4.0 - some run for awhile, and then start having codes.

I had the stock throttle body ported and polished by Jerry Stranigan. Only cost me around $50 to have him do the work as I recall (he also sells them on Ebay). But I can't say that it really caused any performance gain in the end. The car seemed to run the same times regardless of which throttle body I had on it that day or even from race to race (I had an extra one and switched between the non-ported and the ported at the track to see if there was any appreciable difference between them).

Seems like the stock throttle body on the 4.0 is fine; unless you do some port and polish on the heads, and the exhaust manifolds as well. Maybe it is a case that without doing more on the rest of the engine, you simply can only push so much air in.

Thanks guys. So a new rear end. I have dual exhausts through an x-pipe, so Im good there. How about 4.10 gears? Im aware they may lower the top speed and cause higher rpm's, but off the line is greatly improved.

If you are going with the Xcharger Xtreme don't get the 4.10's - in fact 3.55's is all you should move to because even 3.73's will be tough to keep the tires from spinning. The Xcharger builds torque and power down low, so steep gears aren't a good match - 4.10 or 3.73 will launch with lots of spin.

Haha, nice. That'd get old, even with the increased torque- which you'd initially assume would be a plus. So, I assume you have the 3.55's?

Off topic, but I'm also planning to buy headers as well. Do you have any particular favorite or idea which may be best? Im only interested in shorties, even though they provide less gain.
