i got a set of GT takeoffs sitting in my basement, im selling my stang h-pipe for a fox body, and the stock headers since i have long tubes and cant use em, then i remembered the takeoffs i have sitting there

im thinking about having an el-cheapo y-pipe made from my stock exhaust to the h-pipe, hoping it wont cost more than 200 to have the y-pipe made and the hangers done on the car

might be pretty neat :)

Why would you make a Y pipe to go to an H pipe, doesn't make any sense??? The H is supposed to hook to your headers or manifolds...?

A y pipe? wtf??? This is how its done, 2 headers come down, an h-pipe or x-pipe, and then they keep doing back not connecting anywhere with your choice of muffler or glasspack, or if you want, no muffler....but a y pipe?

i actually made a boo boo when typing that, i meant to have the stock exhaust come down, then have a y-pipe split to the catback

232SCstang...ive been in the V6 scene for about 3-4 years now, i know how its done, but show me a single h-pipe for cheap, for my car...and why shell out the cash for an h-pipe and all that BS when im going to 5.0 and be running long tubes probably next year? dont suspect because im young, or i dont have a mustang that i dont know whats going on, i probably have just as much experience as you do, in my shorter life span

im just doing this to get some duals on it, maybe a little power gain, if not, oh well, id just like some sort of duals on it cheap, i have the catback, just need it installed

my y-pipe is completely different than one from a stang, its actually very gay, i would actually have to run true duals on my car if i wanted to do an h-pipe of any sort, and thats much more money than i want to spend on it

im thinking an exhaust shop could just cut, add a y, weld in the catback, lengthen the tailpipes and add hangers for relatively cheap and rather quick

Yeah, I think I know about what you are talking about now. I had custom duals made on my 86 V6 stang, it had wierd cast iron exhaust manifolds and a different sort of exhaust setup than the 94+ V6s do, it started out with a reversed Y pipe type of thing then later on I had him make it true dual all the way to the cast Iron exhaust manifolds with hi flow cats and all, had about $500 in that exhaust system by the time it was completed.

Hey thunderbird dude, im 21. I had my mustang for 5 years now. I MADE my entire exhaust system with 2 1/4 pipes and a welder. You cant find exhaust for any cheaper. I made my own h-pipe, slapped some flowmasters on there, had my friend make some over axel pipes and there ya have it. Job well done.

i didnt mean to come off as a dick, i just really didnt like the "A y pipe? wtf??? This is how its done", it made me feel as if you thought you were superiour in knowledge to me

the reason im going with a y-pipe is only because im REALLY cheap, i dont have much money, and i have a set of takeoffs just sitting, for less than the cost of an h-pipe, i could probably have the takeoffs modified and on my car, i dont have access to a welder, nor do i have the skill to weld, so im just gonna go with the exhaust shop y-pipe untill i get the 5.0 in there, which will require a whole new exhaust setup since the takeoffs wont support the hp of the 5.0

New Cobras come with 2.25 pipes and almost 400bhp stock....Your 5.0 going to have a lot more than that?

i didnt know they came with 2.25", also have to consider that the rest of the pipe on the car is 2"

i found a cheap alternative for the y-pipe, the 88 Cougar XR7 and Tbird Sports had a y-pipe to split to duals, i can pick a new one up for 50 bucks, slap some of the reducer/couplers on there to go from 2" to 2.25", get the mufflers on there, then find someone to weld up my tailpipes, and find a way to make some hangers, and id be set

Well, y pipes piss me off. They are restrictive. And stupid in my opinion. When I said this is how its done, I meant it as this is how I would do it if it were my car. Its not like I was trying to imply that a set of rules of how exhaust systems should be routed exists.

i understand now, i was a bit hot headed the night i replied too, if i remember correctly, it just wasnt a good night

yeah, y-pipes are restrictive, but so are single 2" pipes, if i had the cash, id slap a full exhaust on, but fake duals will be good for now, might even slap some super turbo mufflers on it for a little sound, who knows

you know what you could do... at the Y pipe make the area that it comes together bigger... maybe like 3" tubing or somethin like that... that way it doesnt really restrict it all that much and make those duals worthless. Just an idea.
