I'm not a manual guy but I would try the fluid first then check the clutch and it's components to see if they've gone bad at all to fix the shifting problem. As far as the shaking in the steering wheel goes I had a similar problem with mine check your tires there may be dry rot or a tear in the inner wall (mine) you will probably need them all replaced since they've been sitting and get an alignment too that also may be some problem... And since its been sitting do the full tune up.. spark plugs, filters, maybe a new belt, and all the other little things to get it running more efficiently to lower the risk of future problems with it
Transmission Question
I am restoring a 2000 v6 with 70k on it. It was sitting for about 2 years before gifted to me. This is just my project car, not my DD. I already changed all fluids except the transmission. When I shift gears (especially in low) the stick shifts are very stiff and hard to shift, kinda needs force to get from 1 to 2. On top of that the steering wheel shakes a lot in mid shift. Could this all be due to the transmission or trans fluid?

The shaking steering wheel does not happen all the time, just for a few seconds when I shift up from low gears. I don't think that has to do with the tires, unless I'm wrong. My misunderstanding, I had the shaking at certain speeds with mine.. Try the fluid first for sure then maybe clutch or other man. Components I'm not aware of.. Maybe someone who knows the t5 a little better will chime in with something more insightful
my auto teacher was talking about this a couple weeks ago. He said it's caused by a bent shift fork. If it's only for 1 & 2 it's probably the shift fork that controls gear's 1 & 2.
Auto shop is my favorite class so I pay attention.
My automatic shifted really badly when I left it sitting over the summer in the garage(engine swap) automatics and manuals are a lot different though. It might just be the fluids, but I think it's bent shift fork.
