I was wondering how much would someone charge me to port and polish my intakes. Also how much would they charge for one intake. What are the advantages of this. Then how much would it cost for someone to self port my heads. Would hp gain from polishing one of my intakes?

the intakes for the v6 are pretty good from the factory so just porting the upper and lower is somewhat pointless for the money you would pay to get it done. just polishing is even more pointless cause i only smoothes out what was ported and helps with heat, thats about it. but is you god a new cam or new heads then porting your intakes would be a good investment. with the heads ported and the intakes your looking at around 25-30 hp at the wheels gain. that is if it is also tuned. the cam and intakes would be a little less but a deeper exhaust tone than with the heads. i would get the heads and intakes cause its a nice combo without doing much tunning for the computer. then later get a new cam and a serious tune. with all of that you could easily get around 50+ hp at the wheels with a good tune. but then that would cost around $1400-1800 without the install prices. heads and intakes is around $1000-1200, and the cam and the intakes is around $450-650. all without install.

if they are ported correctly and for the best application tht you are going for, you port different for NA or blown...

What year, and what else do you want to do for the setup???

I used to offer DIY kits for head porting, where I would do 1 cylinder and
then it could be copied. Maybe you can find that somewhere for intakes.
If you decide to DIY it I will give you advice, I did most of this stuff before
anyone else ever thought about it, while Morana was playing with carburetors :D

I did the world's first SPI intakes in april, 1999 :cool:


PS: bigpomp is right for SINGLEPORT, but SPI street combos
run really well on a 3.8 with the heads unported, intakes ported,
and a cam and tune. Head porting is good, but for most folks
it is a bit expensive and the gains are minimal, compared to the rest.
STOCK SPI heads flow really well, it is pretty easy to overport them
for a 3.8 and it is done all the time.

For your setup I'd go something like this:

Ported intakes
Cam, specced for auto and your mods
Chip, rev limiter moved up and shift points adjusted
True Dual Exhaust
Gears, 3.73 for mileage, 4.10 for hot street, or if you keep
the 3.27's and want mileage cam, it could be adjusted for that as well.

*Optional:
1. Port heads, but concentrate on the exhaust ports
and do a mild cleanup on the intake ports.
2. 94-98 headers or aftermarket shorties.

Depends on what you want the car for. I have some
brand new cam specs that will enhance mileage and
still deliver most of the top-end HP, exact figures are
not available yet but the calculations show that they
will achieve MAXIMUM Torque in a 3.8 streeter, and
HP will peak awfully close to what the old 207 cam grinds
put out. I'm saying 200 RWHP in a 5 speed and close
to 190 in an auto, and a tune _might_ not even be needed.
If you get an A/F reading we can get a good idea of what a
tune will do, after the cam. I'd not tune before a cam.

Cam and intakes, your exhaust sounds like a good system for street.

If you want gears and/or premium fuel tune, I would go
with a bigger cam, but the new mileage spec cams will
really surprise people, I say this because the cam specs
reflect a much higher flow window with lower seat durations.
This is the beauty of modern roller technology. I've been
waiting for this for a long time!
