I've got a v6 3.8 and thinking about taking off the muffler is that a good idea.

Good idea as in sound or hurting your car? Sound not sure check YouTube. And if you're worried about it messing your car up should be okay.

Back when i removed my muffler. The sound gets old real quick, and without any sort of hanger on the mid pipe, the headers/mid pipe wont have any support other than their connection to the engine and will most likely crack. And without that on there, you lose a good bit of back pressure resulting in slightly slower acceleration

I cut the muffler off of mine when it was a still a 3.8.

I think it sounds better than stock but something like a flowmaster muffler(10's or 40's) would probably have a better sound.
