no way. 5.0 against 3.7? Bone stock? No no no.

If you were to go forced induction on the 3.7 it would be a close race with a stock 5.0 - bone stock. Or you could do full bolt ons as alrefire said and it would be a close too. Personally, I would boost it, you will have much more potential.

Once the 5.0 starts modding than you will be chasing it unless you do more mods. The 3.7 is good for about 500-55O HP and then you will need to forge the internals.

A 5.0 with forced induction will make that number easy and safe with plenty more room too before it needs to be forged to hold up.

That said there are guys in the 10's with the 3.7 and lots of boost and other supporting mods.

How much you are willing to spend depends on how fast you want to go.

Sell the 6 and get the 8 and go gears and tune. That would be the most economical way to me.

The 3.7 has a forged crank and the 5.0 doesnt
Also the 5.0 has 2 more rods and pistons (duh :p)
You'd pay over 3000 dollars for forged internals on a gt and about 1500 for the v6

If your going to spend a crapload of money in a v6 to get to the power of the 5.0,,why not just get the 5.0..It takes a quite a few things for the 4.6 to catch up,,i couldnt imagine the v6..But it would make a cool sleeper car..:)

I think you might be able beat a stock 5.0 with 4.10's, steeda cold air, throttle body, full exhaust, driveshaft, tires, suspension (springs, arms, etc..) and a custom dyno tune (not no mail order tune like bama) Give it 3.73's, torsen and coilovers and you might be able to give that boss a run for it's money on a road course. Although after all that money you could've bought a procharger, turbo or a GT or maybe even a boss.

I say do what makes you happy though. I mean the amount of money I've put into my car, I could've easily gotten a GT. But I'm happy with my 6. It has enough power for me, handles great, sounds great and imo is the sexiest Mustang ever! :)

Yeah, there's no point trying to catch up to the 5.0. It's easier and cheaper to just get the 5.0. But yes, a sleeper would be bada**!!

This is an option to consider. The only advantage you realistically have over the 5.0 is mpg savings. You want the car to go fast you can drop $7k on it and it will be faster than the 5.0. If I were you I would take that $7k trade it in for a 5.0 and keep on modding it over time. Like the other guy said, about 600 hp is the ceiling on the 3.7

Hell yes. A built up V6 with a massive blower would be badass.

And I can beat a pre 13gt500 (; but who cares. To the OP FI would be the easiest way to go instead of going with full bolt ons because then you can up the up the boost

Someones upset that the new V6 will smoke his GT....
Hardly, I'm blown. Low 11s.

Just saying you will put all that money in and only decrease the value of the car if you had not.

Bolt ons sure just for fun.

The V6 is a lighter engine and probably do very well on the road course or a nice tight auto-X. As far as drag racing goes I would probably want a V8. Of course you can pour $$$ into a V6 to go very, very fast or you can do like red stallion say's

305 hp for a street car on a sports platform is crazy enough to control. From creeping on the 5.0 forums the coyote engine will run 155 and still pull like a mule. They can also handle upwards of 1,000 hp. Plus with light driving you can get close to 27-30mpg. The v6 is for those that wanna save a little or couldn't get a Gt. the v6 also has the hp of previous GT platforms but lacks torque. Gears and a tune will put it to par. But as far as beating the same year model....I'll call you a crazy person and just invest in the v8. Plus who doesn't love the exhaust note of a GT?
