I'm getting new stripes in the next week or so, and figured that if I supply the vinyl the install is much cheaper at my local sign shops. I was wondering how much vinyl I would need to buy for gt500 stripes (10in). And also if I decide to get crazy and cover my whole car matte black, how much vinyl will I need? Thanks!

You might wanna price with them. Had a local shop that cuts them offer me a cheaper price than if I got the vynal myself and had them install it to have their computer cut it and then they install it.

As for vynal wrapping the whole car, are you prep aired for the price? Between vynal and install you will be in the ball park of 3-5K.

That was more of a curiosity question. That's way out of my price range. But Im going by today after work for them to price it. I also want hash marks, you think I can install those myself like I installed the hood spears?

Yeah something like hash marks are easy. I did my own and that was simple. Doing full stripes me personally I wouldn't want to do because there is a lot more vynal to goof up.

One thing I recommend with the hash marks I was stupid on and I have new ones waiting to be put on correctly is do them with the hood open and slightly run them into the engine bay. I didn't do this and upon close inspection it doesn't look very good. I cut them with the hood closed and then pushed them down and if you look at it from close up you can tell I did that.

Oh thanks for the tip! Ill make sure to do that. I just got a quote for stripes-> $225 for vinyl, cut and install (everything) . Does that seem low? I was expecting more...
Check the quality of the vinyl they quoted you. Lots of diff types out there.

Did you guys get quotes from auto body shops or sign shops? Not sure who I should hit up in my city for quotes.
The shop I found was actually a tint/after market shop. They are really well known around here for doing a lot of the dubs and such. They are also really well known because they do a clear vynal coat on Ferraris and lambos and the lot to protect them from the roads in major spots. So rear bumper and front bumper and lower sides.

I dk about the place OP is going too but this place has a computer and vynal cutter and can cut any design specifically for your cars shape perfectly. They can do custom logos the whole works.

Really neat since they get a lot of different customers. Got people driving around on 30" rims because of them and Ferraris and lambos driving around protected because of them. Wish I knew about it back when I got my car I would have done the same thing with the clear. Would have saved my bumper from getting destroyed by rocks.

Edit: Just for ideas this is the shop I am talking about

Yeah this place is a sign shop. They do vehicle wraps for businesses and such.

I checked another shop, they quoted $650 using 3m 1080 vinyl.... I'm gonna check the quality of the lower quote tomorrow.

The $650 is more in the ballpark than the lower quote you mentioned. The lower quote seems too low.

I had my stripes negotiated into the deal of the car, so I'm not sure what the exact cost was. The sales mentioned it ranges anywhere from $500 to $800+, depending on what all you want.

The guy that my dealer uses, used the 3m vinyl, and it came out great. Even though the stripes are computer cut, it still took him about 5-6 hours to do the stripes.

I was quoted I think around 550 for 3M vinyl. Might depend on how much work the place does and who they buy from etc. I agree the other quote is so cheap. If anything I would see how long they guarantee the stripes for. 3M vinyl should last you somewhere around 5-7 years with no issues.

I bought stripes from AM . And did them my self .

It was not hard but takes lots of patients. It's nice to have a helping hand . But can be done by your self . Only part I needed a hand was the hood bc it's the longest . But the kits from AM that are "pre cut " are not what comes to mind . Peel and stick direct fit. Not the case it come in 3 maybe 4 pieces of two stripes you cut down to size use the left overs for the bumpers etc.
not saying the kit is not goo quality just not the pre cut that comes to mind .
Just a heads up.
And if you do it your self do the wet application. If you don't like how it looks peel it and try it again as many times as you like . It's bullet proof as long as you don't squeegee it and leave it for an extended period of time .

If this don't make since my bad half asleep

LOL :D

Might be because I was looking at doing different strips than the OP and doing the super snake strips but I was worried about cutting it around the faux gas cap and that ridge on the bumper in the center and everything that I was gonna opt for a shop to do it. I just wanted to wait until I did a hood scoop first so I could put the stripes on there as well.

I think two 10" stripes would be pretty easy to do with a friend or family member helping.
