I need opinions from people who know what they are talking about. It is just the regular 4.6litre v8. It does have high performance catalytic converters on it and Straight pipes coming off those. No mufflers. Also a K&N Cold Air Intake. I am not trying to make it a speed demon just wondering what the best way to spend $1000 would be. I already know supercharging it would be best but not willing to do that.

Changing the rear end gear ratio can have a big result. A lower ratio (higher number) will allow you to put more power to the ground, resulting in quicker acceleration. The only downside is top speed will be lower and will result in lower fuel economy on the highway. It can increase economy in town if you keep your foot out of it.

The two best bang for the buck are NO2 and new gears for the rear axle.

The nitrous system can be tuned to the horse power gain you want, but you should stay below 250hp shot. Nitrous has the advantage of being switched on or off as needed. $500-$800

The gears will give you snapper performance all the time but will hurt fuel use. $180

Using nitrous can break parts(engines, transmissions, u-joins etc.) Gears will not but will make it easier to shred tires.

You may also look into installing a locker with both these options. One tire burnouts are for squids.

Reprogramming the ECU only gives a gain of 20 -50 hp, this would only reduce your quarter mile time by a tenth or tenth and a half seconds. the right gears or nitrous will cut 2 seconds off the quarter mile.

I agree with tjpreul. I saw an episode on PowerBlock TV the other day where they purchased a Tuner for around $300-$400. All they did was hook it up to the car (the computer system or something) and it gave them another 25 horses, and it also improves the gas mileage of the vehicle. When you buy the tuner it will come with instructions on what to do, but you really just let the tuner do its job and your done.

Cam it's self is $800 to $1,300. plus labor NO2 is the best bang for the dollor. you only use it win you want. Programer is also great. when you change you rear gear's you will need one to reset you speed-o. you might have that already with what you have already done. the throttle body $300 and up is also very good for them.

A performance chip would bring out some extra power also look into a intake and a bigger throttle body or even some under drive pulleys but best power would be upgrading to a bigger cam just make sure its one with out having to change your lifters and spring and rockers this will go past your budget of $1000. Ask around on this website.
