My friend doesn't believe me when I tell him this (I know for a fact that there were mustangs ordered with 390's), so I figure if a lot of other people tell him and post proof (links, pic's, etc.) it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sam
btw my friend's name is Nick, and he has a 1967 mustang coupe 289 2v, I have a 1968 mustang fastback 302 4v (his is apparently faster :p)

sure they had 390s back in the 60s and even the 70s. i had a 70 LTD that had a 390. if you have that 302 tuned up good you could run circles around his 289. a 289 is a good engine but a 302 and 390 is better.

The cylinder heads from these 390 GT motors are also the only FE-series head to use 4 bolts on the exhaust ports.... the 390 GT heads were the predecessors to the vaunted 428 Cobra Jet cylinder heads
