Non-tuned required intakes really give you nothing since they do not increase the amount of air flowing into the engine. The reason why some require a tune is because they're increasing the diameter of the pipe which allows more air to pass by the MAF. The tune is required because the factory programming cannot make up for the added air. Show me a dyno run that backs up your non-tuned cai putting 8hp at the wheels.
The cats on these cars are not that restrictive, the most you'll be getting from removing a cat on the S197 is about 5hp. Most people run OR pipes because they make the car louder. It was a difference game on the SN95 and NE cars that had pre cats.
YOU made the claims that they do not provide power. The X pipes also provide decent gains. For their cost. Giving advice to the OP without providing the info is the same thing. Not busting your balls or nothing but you can't claim something and everyone is supposed to just take it in.
The K&N intake that has the slip in it to keep the car non tune required STILL showed 10WHP on brenspeed's dyno. That easy to find one. And yes, they do increase the volume of air with the open filter and the smoothed bend.
UPR X pipe has shown upwards of 10WHP. Brenspeed's own H Pipe which usually nets lower numbers by a smidge, netted 8WHP and 10lb/ft.
Fast fords got 7 and 7 from an X pipe.
