Well im going to school right to be a mechanic and yesterday we where going over the importance of torqueing things down and oil pan drain plugs came up something about such a high rate of pressure and gaskets leaking if you tighten it to much my teacher said 18 foot pounds of torque is standard for an oil drian plug just wanted to comapre with anyone else out there to see if it was 18 because i cant seem to find the specs online

just snug then another quarter turn or so, dont over do it. I would say 18-25 would be good. There is no real gasket there, some may have a thin washer~

Torque specs are really only important for like heads, rods, mains, etc. I manage a repair shop and that's the only time my guys ever ask me for specs/sequences. I know there are specs for just about everything but they've been doing it for so long they just kinda know how tight different stuff has to be. Hand tight on an oil plug is fine

I bought a used car one time for the winter and the plug was stripped and leaking. Auto shops sell something, forget what it's called but you put a larger plug in and the center of the plug comes out and that's how you drain. Works pretty good.
But makes you more pay more attention when your doing an oil change.
