manual trans question

I have a t-5 that is dead. Everything that I have read says that the 94-95 manuals have an input shaft that is 3/4 inch longer than the earlier t-5.
Could anyone answer this question as to why the longer input shaft, and is it enough to make an older transmission not engage properly if used in my application. I am just looking for something to get the car driving. Just wanted to be able to get it back on the road and state inspected. It won't be an everyday driver for quite sometime.

any 94-04 T-5 should work with out an issue as far as bolting it up goes. The issue is in 99+ the T-5s went to a magnet instead of a speedo gear~ so if you obtain one of them you will need to swap tailshafts.
