Im looking to try a different fluid with hopes of some kind of improvement, I plan on keeping the OEM stuff to cover myself if the transmission decides to explode, I would like to hear which fluids people have had luck with

I did the same.

From the svtperformance.com forums, PM's between him and myself. UnleashedBeast is an Amsoil rep. If you search you'll find plenty of forums he's on and he states that Amsoil now recommends only MTF, not MTG. MTG is too viscous and causes notchiness on cold starts and in cold climates. It was previously OK'd for hotter/southern climates but now they recommend MTF across the board. Mine has been doing great with MTF thus far here in Texas. Hope this helps!

No, look at the dates...Ford back spec'd the fluid from 75W-90 to a very light synchromesh. It was a drastic change. You will be perfectly fine with MTF.

I noticed in some threads that i read you were recommending the MTG over the MTF for road course or hot climate. I am doing road course in Texas soooo, should i go MTG or MTF?

First, thanks for being such a wealth of information on these forums. I enjoy your scientific approach and analysis.

My question must be prefaced by the following:

2013 GT w/ Brembo, I installed the Boss Oil Cooler myself, the engine is on stock tune and un-modded, only suspension mods are done.

I'm taking it to the track (road course, 20 minute sessions, 4 sessions a day for 2 days) in October and I live in Texas where its damn hot. I've been running Penzoil Ultra 5W-30 for daily use. Should I bump up to a 10w-40 for the track or should I stick to the PU 5w30?

Thanks for your response and what you do here. :)
The thing to remember is, how hot the oil is getting around the piston. It can reach temps up to 300*F, and bring disaster to cheap engine lubricants during extended road racing events.

HT/HS (High Temp / High Shear) is the term we use to measure a lubricants viscosity at 150*C (300*F). This simulates viscosity when it's around the piston areas of the engine. 30 grade lubricants are around 3.2, while 40 grade lubricants are in the 4.3 range. The higher HT/HS is desired during long session road course events to protect cylinder piston ring to piston wall contact.

For your use, I'd recommend increasing viscosity in the engine. There is a reason why Ford recommends higher viscosity in Track Pack GT and Boss 302 engines, they know it will be used for extended session events.

The oil cooler will help control overall oil temps, but even the Boss 302 requires more viscosity during these events.

Amsoil AMO 10W-40

Amsoil EaO17 oil filter

You will want this in your transmission, in case that you are not using it already.

Amsoil MTF Synchromesh - requires 3 quarts

Hand Pump - makes it easy to get new fluid into your transmission

Want the best protection for your rear axle? Road racing is punishing.

Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-140 - requires 3 quarts

Amsoil Slip Lock - requires 1 bottle

When you are not going track crazy, it's perfectly fine to step down to Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30 again, or for mpg increases....

Amsoil AZO 0W-30

and please, do not pay cost on this stuff.

Yes I know this is an old thread. I actually want to talk to peeps that have swapped out Ford's fluid and put miles on the mt-82. Amsoil's website says that they do not recommend using any of their products on the mt-82. Can't get a definitive answer from royal purple or redline.
So, how are ur tranny's holding up with ur fluid now? Did it get notchy again? Any problems yet?
I want to swap out, but not sure what to use now.

Mine is working pretty well with Red Line MTL and the Ford XL18 additive. Got around 9K on that combination now. Note I've also fitted an MGW shifter.

Amsoil won't make a recommendation because of the history with the MT-82. However, many people are using MTF with good results. I switched to MTF at approximately 4000 miles, and have 8000 miles now with good results. Overall shifts are easier and smoother. There is still the occasional notchiness into second, but its much improved.

I added the Barton 2 post shifter bracket and Whiteline lower transmission mount at the same time. While these two parts made the most improvement during high RPM hard shifts, at lost speed casual shifting I can feel the impact the fluid has. Overall after switching to the Amsoil fluid everything feels more refined. Its not perfect, but is a definite improvement.

I have not driven the car in cold weather with the new fluid. Its still hot in Texas. My opinion could change this winter.

The MT-82 originally came with a thick 14cSt fluid. They then switched to a thin 6-7cSt fluid in the 2012 model year. They then later added the XL18 additive. They later still stopped using the XL18 additive.

The one thing people seem to agree on is that the MT-82 likes a fluid on the thinner side. When I made my fluid choice, I went with MTF because it was a relatively thin fluid fluid at 9-10cSt, that still offered adequate protection in Texas heat. I also had good success with it in my previous vehicle, which also had notchiness during shifts.

But there are numerous fluids that people have had good success with, so use what you can easily get locally.

Good luck!

Update.
Replaced with RP Synchromax and a whiteline bushing, and flushed fluid. Absolutely no change. Well, shifting feels the same, but the whiteline sure does rumble! I really don't mind it as I know what is making the noise, and it isn't hearting anything.
Fwiw, I was at the dealer today and the service mgr drove it and said it feels perfect to him. It is def more notchy than it was a few thousand miles ago, but I guess I am just being too anal retentive. We shall see eventually!
